Lily Bella acquires bridal jewellery label, Yarwood-White

Lily Bella, one of the UK's leading suppliers of Birdcage veil and wedding dress accessories, has recently completed the purchase of award-winning bridal jewellery brand, Yarwood-White.

This represents Lily-Bella's first acquisition as the company begins to execute its business plan of strategically purchasing bridal businesses and integrating them into the company's growing national brand.

"We are extremely pleased to announce the completion of the acquisition of Yarwood-White, which has a reputation for providing high quality, beautifully-designed bridal jewellery to brides across the UK," says Kirsty Griffiths, Owner of Lily Bella. "We plan to use Yarwood-White as the platform to expand our diversification into several bridal markets across the UK."

Weathering the storm

A warm welcome to our latest issue, which is full of features to help you grow your business in 2013. David Mackley discusses whether the in-store kiosk can ever benefit independent retailers, while Rachael Carrington offers her advice on protecting your premises from bad weather. At the time of writing this, flooding as a result of torrential rain has wreaked havoc on town centres across the country, so it couldn't be more timely.

If you're keen to find out about the latest trends, we start by reviewing prom wear, a market which some predict will be hugely changed by the Education and Skills Act, passed in 2008. This decreed that from 2013, 17-year-olds would have to stay in education or work-based training, at least part time. Moreover, from 2015 this would further extend to 18-year-olds. Because of these changes, the traditional 16-year-old prom event could well be postponed until the students turn 18, resulting in many new designs in more adult styles. There may also be a greater demand for junior prom gowns as more events than ever are held for 11-year-olds preparing to go to secondary school.

Also in this issue we have articles on occasion wear, formal wear and special occasion shoes, not forgetting in-depth previews of two top trade shows - Moda and The Essential Collection 2013.

Finally, don't miss Ellie Sanderson's latest column. The award-winning bridal retailer recently visited New York Bridal Week and she has plenty of news from across the pond.

Alan Hannah releases stunning 2013 bridal campaign shots

Following the official launch of the new Alan Hannah and MiaMia collections earlier this year, the new campaign shots have just been released. Speaking about the photoshoot, Alan said: "We're thrilled with our new campaign shots for Alan Hannah and MiaMia. Marguerite's vision for the Alan Hannah Classic Beauty campaign was to create a modern aesthetic with dresses like Chryso and Ellie, and a vintage twist on some of the other bridal gowns, such as Lottie, Veronique and Connie."

As always, the collection is made in the company's own workrooms in London and can be made to measure. The gowns retail between £1,700 and £2,500.

"For MiaMia, we wanted to continue with the boho feel of last year but to give a slightly more polished and rich feel to the campaign which would really show the beautiful textures and detailing of dresses like Clematis, Rosemary and Windflower and add a real luxe feel to gowns like Tamara and Dahlia," says Alan. "Marguerite has really worked to ensure that the collection is commercial, yet retains its fashion forward artistic integrity and vision."

Most of the MiaMia collection retails between £1,100 and £1,600.
